#HemoLife Athlete Jake Neubauer
My name is Jake Neubauer, and I have severe hemophilia B factor 9. I'm from Bismarck, North Dakota but currently reside in Fort Collins, Colorado. I live with my girlfriend and 9 month old daughter. I currently work as a satellite technician and am also going to school to earn a structural engineering degree. I was born with hemophilia, as all of us blood brothers are. At a very young age I hated having hemophilia, I was embarrassed of my port. I felt as if I was different and didn't fit in with the other kids. At the age of 9 I decided, I was going to make a change. I decided to start getting active and running to lose weight. I decided in 5th grade that I wanted to play football and despite my doctors concerns, I did. I continued playing football all the way to college ball. Ever since I was a young, I made the decision that I was not going to let hemophilia define me. I was going to overcome and be better than I could have ever imagined. I decided I was going to give my all in everything I did. I have always been in love with sports, and being active. I have always been very into the weight room, since I was a football player. I now have a completely different level of focus towards the weight room. It is my sanctuary, it is where I let loose every night. It helps me strengthen my muscles, and the stronger my muscles get the better control I have over my disorder. Someday, I hope to become a fitness icon. I want to show the hemophiliac community and anyone with any adversity that, dreams do come true. All it takes is a whole lot of hard work and determination.
